The Dunny: what people ask
The Dunny is a 60-minute adventure escape room produced by Escape This. Players are locked inside the outback outhouse of Huge Axeman, a fictional and unhinged Aussie celebrity, and must solve puzzles to escape and radio for help before daylight runs out. It plays in Sydney at Manly Beach and in the Perth CBD.
“Dunny” is Australian slang for a toilet, traditionally an outdoor outhouse or “long drop” out the back of a bush property. The Dunny escape room recreates one: a weathered timber outback outhouse that you have to escape from.
The Dunny is equal parts creepy and hilarious rather than a horror room. Expect fading light, periods of darkness, the odd jump scare and plenty of outback humour, but no crawling, confined spaces or smoke effects. Families play it all the time.
The Dunny is uniquely Australian. You play inside a full-scale outback outhouse, with cicadas buzzing, someone whistling “Waltzing Matilda” and an axe thwacking outside while the daylight fades. It is designed, built and run by Escape This — Australia’s largest escape room operator, with its own escape room design studio and factory — and every booking is private to your group.
The Dunny is rated 7 out of 10 for difficulty. The clues are generally easy to find but challenging to solve. It suits players who have done an escape room before, and beginners up for more of a challenge. Gamesmasters give extra clues whenever you need them.
You get 60 minutes in The Dunny. Arrive 15 minutes before your start time and allow about 15 minutes afterwards to debrief, so the whole visit takes up to 90 minutes.
At Manly The Dunny costs $59 per adult and $49 per child under 16. At Perth CBD it costs $49 per adult and $39 per child Monday to Thursday, and $59 per adult and $49 per child Friday to Sunday. Prices exclude public and school holidays.

The Dunny takes 2–6 players at Manly and 2–8 players at Perth CBD (4–8 on Saturdays). The group limits are not flexible; larger groups can book several rooms to start at the same time.
Yes, The Dunny is a popular family room, but the age rules differ by venue. At Manly 9+ is recommended and children from 7 can play in a family group with a paying adult in the room. At Perth CBD the minimum age is 13.

Yes, it is the same story, set, 60-minute time limit and 7/10 difficulty at both venues. Only the house rules differ. Manly takes 2–6 players, recommends ages 9+, is not wheelchair accessible and charges one price every day. Perth CBD takes 2–8 players, has a minimum age of 13, is wheelchair accessible and is cheaper Monday to Thursday.
