Friday. Two dunnies. Two! I am now the only man in the country with a matching pair. It’s like having a mansion with an ensuite, only further apart.
The new one is in Perth, under Hay Street Mall, and it’s an exact copy of the original. Same weathered timber. Same lantern. Same door with the same opinion about letting people out. The workshop built it from scratch in their big shed, splinter for splinter, and shipped it into the basement. I sent them a signed photo for the wall. They have not hung it yet. I assume they are choosing a frame.
First tour group through this morning. The door went click at the usual moment and the usual screaming followed, which I took as a compliment.
Perth has its own house rules, I’m told. Bigger groups, older players, a different price on a Tuesday. I said that’s fine, so long as the dunny is the same, and it is. You can’t improve on perfection. You can only build a second one.
Smoko wanted to fly over for the opening. Smoko is a dog. We watched it on the news instead, which is to say I described it to him.
