Tuesday. They’ve changed the sign out the front again. It says Escape This Manly now, nice big letters, very smart. It does not say Axeman. I have checked from every angle.
Kev explained it to me. The company has opened another place across the harbour in the city, so they wanted everyone to know this one is the Manly one. I said everyone already knows it’s the Manly one, because it’s the one with my dunny in it. Kev wrote that down and then, I believe, threw it away.
My dunny has neighbours on The Corso, mind. There’s a tomb down the hall with an old Egyptian in it who has even less to say for himself than Smoko. We get on.
People ask me how to get in. Easy. You book on the computer, or you ring the front desk, and they give you a time. You turn up, you take the tour, you need the loo. Nature does the rest.
I’ve asked for a small sign of my own, under the big one. Just my name, in gold, and an arrow pointing at the back. Request is “being considered”. I have chosen the font.
