Wednesday. Big day for the dunny. New management, and they have finally given her a proper name.
For years the old sign said “Indisposed”. Indisposed! That is not a name, that is an excuse. You do not call the most famous outhouse in the country “Indisposed”. You call it The Dunny. Capital T, capital D, the way I always intended.
I should explain, for the record and for my future biographers. I am Huge Axeman. Famous. Beloved. Possibly the most recognised face in the entire outback, although out here the competition is mostly emus. Some years back I stepped away from public life and took to the bush. My people said I’d gone troppo. I said I needed space. Then I took all of it.
The dunny I could never leave behind. It stands out the back of the house, door shut, and every tour group wants a peek. Naturally. And if one of them squeezes in and the door goes click behind them, well, that isn’t my fault. That’s carpentry.
The new lot keep a proper book of everyone who comes through. First page today. I asked to be written in it. They said I’m not a customer. I said I’m the attraction.
